In support of effective eco-industrial estate development, IEAT and GTZ, under the Development of Eco-Industrial Estate and Networks Project, have established five working groups with responsibility for policy and strategic partnership, capacity building, pilot projects, new eco-industrial estates. A benchmark system, an Eco-Industrial Development (EID) Resource Center and web site are also provided.

Pilot projects/estates
Integration is the major approach used in eco-industrial estate development. Tripartite participation by the private and public sectors and the local community is encouraged. Using this approach, five of the 29 existing industrial estates have been selected as pilot project sites. Each demonstrates a different aspect of eco-industrial estate development and is implementing at least one important Eco-Industrial Support System (EISS).

This industrial estate is expected to be the prototype for other eco-industrial estates in Thailand. It will use infrastructure the supports water conservation, water and wastewater reuse, and closed-loop wastewater treatment. In addition it will promote the conservation of existing wetlands within the estate and will use locally available natural materials as fuel.

Eco-Industrial Development (EID) Resource Center

The EID Resource Center is situated on the 6th Floor of the Office of the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, Makkasan Road, Bangkok. The Center collects information on eco-industrial development and the project, Development of Eco-Industrial Estate and Networks (DEE+Net). The information is disseminated in various forms, including books, articles, brochures, CD-ROMs, diskettes, manuals, reports and periodicals. A computerized program is available as a search tool.

www.ecobizthai.net
This web site is designed to support all components and activities of the project. The menu on the main page includes eco-industry projects, activities, progress to-date, services, trading networks, questions and answers and a web board. The Eco-efficiency for Industry Programme is supported by GTZ. An important part is the Development of Eco-Industrial Estates + networks (DEE+Net) Project. DEE+Net will have its own INTRANET for all stakeholders and project participants, enabling them to communicate effectively and collaborate in the project's implementation. It will be a tool for all parties who would like to support the project.

Even with a facilitation made by IEAT and GTZ, the support and cooperation of stakeholders, the principle owners of the strategy for eco-industrial estate development, are crucial to improving the quality of life of communities in addition to enhancing environmental quality and business success.
