The Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT)

pioneered in the application of the principle of eco-industrial development in the country, with a long-term view to promoting this principle among the existing 29 industrial estates under the supervision of IEAT as well as those that are proposed, such as the Rubber City. In support of this goal, IEAT in collaboration with the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) implemented the project, Development of Eco-Industrial Estate and Networks or DEE+Net. During the period 2002-2004. The preparatory phase was started in 2000.

Qualification as an eco-industrial estate is based on the following criteria :
The Development of an industrial estate is based on the eco concept.
The industrial estate acts as nucleus for all factories in the estate, to promote cooperation in resource and environmental management in relation to the utilization of raw materials, energy and water ; and in enhancing the quality of life of nearby communities. Such cooperation among factories is in accordance with the meaning of eco concept and will benefit the estate and nearby communities, while also serving the needs of individual factories.
Every factory in the estate applies the principle of eco concept at the final stage, following its use and application of waste minimization technology, clean technology, ISO 14001 and responsible care.
